The Brücke
Group of artists was founded in Germany in 1905,
in reaction against traditional academic approaches
to art. The members of the group formed the first
of theGerman Expressionist painters. In autumn
2008 the Nordic Watercolour
Museum will be presenting an exhibition of works
from this group, artists who exerted a major influence
on the development of modern art in Europe throughout
the 20th century.
The Brücke Museum in Berlin, which opened
in 1967, possesses an exceptional collection of
the works of Brücke Group artists. The collections
include not only oil paintings but also thousands
of drawings and watercolours. This exhibition,
organised in collaboration with the Brücke
Museum, is unique in being the first to focus
on the watercolours in the museum’s collection.
