Julie Nord takes us to imaginary worlds. Her skilled drawings, often in unusually large scale, bewitch the viewer with their puzzling motifs. Wide-eyed little girls and weird animal creatures move in and out of the pictures. Something threatening lurks behind the idyll. She challenges our preconceptions of the borderlines separating the innocent from the frightening. As if in a film, many different time sequences are here compressed into a single scene. Her works are in Indian ink and watercolour. Julie Nord’s visual idiom is inspired by film art, illustrations from children’s books and Gothic horror tales. There are traces here suggestive of tales by Lewis Caroll, H.C. Andersen and the brothers Grimm.
