Join us on a bus trip filled with art, Bohus romanticism and unexpected experiences!From Gothenburg we travel through the beautiful landscape of Southern Bohuslän and visit a wide variety of places where art is at the centre. We discover everything from newly produced exhibitions to murals in the countryside, meet artists and end with a performance in a culturally historical environment. In total, we make no less than eight stops during the day. The places we visit are run by the independent art scene, under municipal administration or as independent institutions – a breadth that testifies to all the expressions that can be found in the area. During the trip, project managers Kia Nordqvist and Anna Ostrowski talk about the <a href="https://www.orust.se/uppleva-och-gora/kulturhistoria-kulturarv/muma-muralmalningar-pa-orust" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">MUMA</a> art project and we look at two murals that are part of the project. 1.15–2.15 pm Visit to <a href="https://aic.earth/English" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AiC</a> (Artists in Coexistence) Orust, where we get a presentation of the project and the site, followed by an open studio with a display of the ongoing residency and a conversation with designer and artist Christoph Matt. 2.15–3.00 pm We head towards Tjörn and on the way we are presented with another mural in the MUMA project. 3.00–4.00 pm Visit to Nordiska Akvarellmuseet (The Nordic Watercolour Museum), where the opening of the autumn exhibition&nbsp;<a href="https://www.akvarellmuseet.org/en/exhibitions/christine-odlund-en" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">This Garden and its Spirits</a> with Christine Ödlund will be held. On the same day, a <a href="https://www.akvarellmuseet.org/en/events/treasures-trash-october2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">trade-in day</a> is also organised at the museum, for those who want to bring things from home to swap with others. 4.00–5.30 pm The bus continues to Stenungsunds konsthall. Once there, we visit the current exhibition with Onofrio Chillemi and are invited to a tour with the artist himself on site. 5.30–7.30 pm We move on to Svenshögen and Kulturföreningen Stationen. At 6.00 pm, the performance&nbsp;Ett sömnspel by musician and composer Anna Gustavsson and poet Lina Ekdahl begins. 7.30 pm The bus will head back to Gothenburg. There will be an option to get off in Stenungsund to continue the evening at <a href="https://www.vastsverige.com/stenungsund/evenemang/kulturnatta-i-stenungsund-2024/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Stenungsund Culture Night</a> and take the train back to Gothenburg. The current exhibition at Konsthallen at Bohusläns museum is titled "As Dreamers Do" and presents fifteen participating artists. The title of the exhibition refers to the artist's role as dreamer, observer and co-creator in a complex contemporary world. In the exhibition, several themes meet, on gender, identity, but also on abstraction, dream and surrealism.

orustKonst presents the art project MUMA – Mural Modern Art. MUMA has invited six contemporary, urban, female artists, with different expressions and origins, to portray women's history in the countryside. Through mural painting, the project makes visible hidden and forgotten stories and people from our history, people and stories that often have not been given space – the ones of women.

AiC (Artist in Coexistence) on the island of Orust is a platform and a residency for artistic exploration of relationships and coexistence between all living beings from a post-humanist perspective. The current artist in residence Christoph Matt is an Austrian eco-social designer based in Reykjavik and Vienna. In his ongoing project he wants to bring together individuals from near and far in site-specific artistic and scientific explorations, where the participants themselves can become active, reflect individually and in groups on nature–human relations and jointly understand larger ecological contexts on Orust and in Bohuslän.

Christine Ödlund, Psychedelic Botanist III (Carl Linnaeus), 2022 - Firestorm Foundation

In the autumn of 2024, Nordiska Akvarellmuseet will open an extensive solo exhibition featuring Christine Ödlund, titled “This Garden and its Spirits”. A large part of Ödlund's art has its roots in an allotment garden. A green laboratory, not only for plants but also for ideas. The pigments in her watercolours, which often blossom into very large formats, frequently come directly from plants in the allotment. With a soft, earthy colour palette, where blacks and metallic tones serve as accents, Ödlund creates fascinating compositions where the figurative and abstract meet. On the same day as the exhibition opening (on 12th October), one of the museum's popular trade-in days will be held – bring items you no longer use and exchange them for something someone else has brought!

Nordiska Akvarellmuseet

The current exhibition at Stenungsunds konsthall presents the Italian artist Onofrio Chillemi (1974). Over the past ten years, Chillemi has created a series of works that he calls Indefinite Architecture. The series includes everything from murals, drawings and objects to installations. The works interplay geometric forms, organic lines and recycled materials. They give life to what can be described as abstract architectural structures. The exhibition runs from October 5 to November 16.

Stationen in Svenshögen is a non-profit organisation that since 2019 produces, arranges and presents contemporary art and culture, based in a renovated railway station building. The performance "Ett Sömnspel" premiered in 2021 at Atalante in Gothenburg. Now, musician and composer Anna Gustavsson and poet Lina Ekdahl are doing a version as a duo. Sleep, insomnia and the state in between. Every day there comes a time when you go to bed, when you should sleep. If you are lucky, sleep will come. The deep, dreamless one. If not, where are we? When thoughts spin, distort and magnify. When everything is turned on its head. When life's existential questions arise. When sheep are counted, pills are eaten, restlessness rages and anxiety grows. Or the waking nights, when rest, silence and the moon make us gently bide our time.

On four Saturdays during 2024, we're hosting the trade-in day Treasures &amp; Trash at the museum.Why is it a good idea to exchange instead of buying new? By using used things, you can reduce your environmental impact. Instead of manufacturing new ones and throwing them away, you can save on natural resources and reduce your waste through recycling. This is one of many climate-smart choices that contribute to a more sustainable society.We don't accept the following during the exchange day: – Food – Things bigger than you can carry on your own – Living things (though plants are welcome!) &nbsp;Here's how it works:<ul style="list-style-type:square;"><li>Bring a maximum of ten items that you wish to exchange. They must be in good condition, so that someone else will want to take them home. For each item you hand in, you get a trade-in ticket that you can exchange for something else.</li><li>It’s also possible to hand things in two weeks before the trade-in day during the museum's opening hours (11 am–4 pm), regardless of whether you want to join the trade-in day or just to donate your stuff. Fyra lördagar under 2024 arrangerar vi ombytardagen Skatter &amp; skräp på museet.Varför är det en bra idé att byta istället för att köpa nytt? Genom att använda begagnade saker kan du minska din miljöpåverkan. Istället för att tillverka nytt och slänga kan du genom återvinning spara på naturresurser och minska ditt avfall. Detta är ett av många klimatsmarta val som bidrar till ett mer hållbart samhälle.Detta tar vi inte emot under bytardagen: – Livsmedel&nbsp; – Saker som är större än att du kan bära hit det på egen hand – Levande saker (växter är dock välkomna!) &nbsp;Såhär går det till:<ul style="list-style-type:square;"><li>Ta med dig max tio saker som du inte längre använder. A larger selection of Christine Ödlund's works will be exhibited at The Nordic Watercolour Museum during the period 13 October 2024–2 February 2025.&nbsp;Ödlund's art is built on cross-pollination. A sensory impression is perceived and interpreted by other senses. The artist has painted pictures with light, played music for nettles and orchids, and listened to the voices of ferns. Ödlund’s paintings, sculptures and video works remind us that nature is cyclical. Christine Ödlund's (b. 1963) art is built on cross-pollination. Sound and image, nature and culture, physics and metaphysics often interact in her complex installations. In her artistic language, traditional boundaries break down. One sensory impression is captured and interpreted through another. Her works explore the possibility of transcending the language barrier between humans and nature, and the barriers between the invisible and the visible.

Christine Ödlund's (b. 1963) art is built on cross-pollination. Sound and image, nature and culture, physics and metaphysics often interact in her complex installations. In her artistic language, traditional boundaries break down. One sensory impression is captured and interpreted through another. Her works explore the possibility of transcending the language barrier between humans and nature, and the barriers between the invisible and the visible. The exhibition runs from 13 October 2024 to 2 February 2025.

Watercolours obey the laws of nature, and by understanding these laws, we can learn to capture the artistic expressions we seek.In this course, we will delve deeply into how watercolour painting works by investigating why paint, water, and paper behave the way they do together. Course leader Alexandra Walsh is a visual artist and art educator working in Gothenburg. She holds a doctorate in chemistry and uses her scientific background to create and discuss watercolour from a more artisanal perspective. With the help of chemistry and physics, she manipulates watercolour paint in innovative ways, resulting in a unique expression.

Why have there not been any great female artists?&nbsp;The question is asked by Linda Nochlin, Professor of Art History, in the early 1970s. The response is an explosion of international art history research in an attempt to find the answer. It turns out that there have been many women artists throughout art’s history, who since the Middle Ages have been highly celebrated stars. They sold their works for more than their male counterparts, worked for the great royal courts of Europe, founded art academies and much more.&nbsp;This lecture focuses on written art history, major women artists, and unthinkable life destinies. We seek to understand why the art history books have consistently ignored the works of women artists, and what reality actually looked like throughout art history.&nbsp; Admission free, pre-registration is required. The lecturers provides insights into the kind of art that often requires more information than fits inside a frame. Refreshments will be provided by the museum, and there will also be opportunities to continue the discussion. All the lectures are on the main theme but can be enjoyed separately. Angelica Olsson is an artist, a curator, member of the national board of Konstnärernas Riksorganisation (The Artists' Association of Sweden), and active in education, art mediation, as well as a writer and lecturer. She studied at Valand Academy of Fine Arts with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Fine Arts, The Nordic Art School in Karleby, Finland, and has studied courses in art history, archaeology, and social anthropology at Stockholm and Uppsala universities.

Anneli Pihlgren, an artist and course leader based in Gothenburg, is unafraid to explore beauty with colour, rhythm, and composition, along with her unique sensibility. In her drawings and watercolours, there is a meditative quality where straws, needles, and random fragments from the ground suddenly appear as calligraphic texts.

Welcome to three November days focused on the joy of painting, effortless creativity, contrasts, and atmospheres!&nbsp;In this course, we practice using contrasts and painting boldly to achieve that "swing" that takes watercolour painting to the next level. As a participant, you will develop your painting skills through demonstrations, practical exercises, and creative freedom. You will work with both your own subjects and communal themes. Together, we will draw inspiration from the forest and bring the surrounding nature into the studio. During the course, the instructor and artist Anna Israelsson will also share her watercolour journey and insights into her creative process. Course leader Anna Israelsson is a visual artist and designer, working alternately on the West Coast and in Värmland. In her painting, contrasts are central: light versus darkness, the flowing versus the precise, shadowy forests versus light streaks on tree trunks. Her artistry is inspired by nature, everyday life, and capturing moments from passing days.

Välkommen till tre novemberdagar med fokus på målarglädje, kravlös kreativitet, kontraster och stämningar!I den här kursen övar vi på att nyttja kontraster och att måla modigt, för att få till det där “schvunget” som gör att akvarellmåleriet lyfter. Som deltagare får du hjälp att komma vidare i ditt måleri genom demonstrationer, praktiska övningar och fritt arbete. Du kommer både att arbeta med egna motiv och med gemensamma teman. Tillsammans inspireras vi bland annat av skogen och låter den omkringliggande naturen följa med in i ateljén. Under kursen delar dessutom kursledaren och konstnären Anna Israelsson med sig av sin akvarellresa och hur hennes kreativa process ser ut. Attending a concert with GERD is to be drawn into a world of contrasts, where light and shadow dance in harmony. We look forward to experiencing the vocal phenomenon that is GERD at this autumn’s Grund-concert, as she captivates the audience with her unique sound.With her ability to blend timeless, melodramatic pop with electronic soundscapes, GERD has quickly established herself as a powerful voice to be reckoned with on the Swedish music scene. In 2023, she won the Future Artist award at P3 Guld, but even before that, she had performed at Globen in Stockholm, toured with Miriam Bryant, and played at Way Out West Festival in Gothenburg. Her album Meet Me In The Blue was released earlier this year, and since then, she has been on tour. Welcome to the museum to look at art and create something of your own.There are many works of art in The Nordic Watercolour Museum's collection. We often see them grouped together in various exhibitions. What happens if we highlight them one work at a time?On one Thursday evening every month, we put one original work from our art archive on display.
