Painting Processes: From Control to Experiment
- –
- Experimentverkstaden
info
This course explores painting as a diversity of processes rather than a single method. You will have the opportunity to try both planned and intuitive approaches, where the painting evolves through chance and experimentation.
Through practical exercises, you will discover how different approaches can lead to similar results, and how each method reveals something about your creative practice. The aim is to understand how varying ways of working can develop your artistic expression.
The course has been developed in dialogue with the summer exhibition at The Nordic Watercolour Museum, where works by Asger Jorn and Per Kirkeby demonstrate how structure and spontaneity can meet. After the course, you will have a deeper understanding of your own working process and tools to refine your expression. The course focuses on watercolour, but is open to anyone who loves painting, regardless of technique.

about the course leader
Alexandra Walsh
Course leader Alexandra Walsh is based in Gothenburg, where she works as a visual artist and holds a PhD in chemistry. She draws on her scientific background to create and discuss watercolour from a more craft-oriented perspective. Using chemistry and physics, she manipulates watercolour paint in innovative ways, resulting in an expression that is not found among other contemporary Nordic artists.
