Grund / Iiris Viljanen

info
With her honest and unique expression, composer, singer, and pianist Iiris Viljanen has achieved remarkable success. Over the years, Viljanen has established herself as one of Sweden's most intriguing live performers. Following the release of her Grammy-awarded album Den lilla havsfrun and En finsk jul, she embarked on acclaimed tours in 2021 and 2022. Viljanen originally debuted with the indie band Vasas flora och fauna (who performed at Grund in 2018!), but since 2015, she has been captivating audiences under her own name.
Iiris Viljanen's lyrics read like short stories from everyday life and never fail to resonate with the audience. Her piano playing and compositions have been compared to jazz legends such as Keith Jarrett, Jan Johansson, and Lars Gullin. The newspaper Värmlands Folkblad expressed in their review of her latest album:
"She could steer any jazz band in the right direction and probably also rock the socks of Elton John if needed"
Additionally, the music magazine Hymn stated:
"Viljanen has a rare ability to capture and convey melancholy, both in her lyrics and music, in a way I've rarely heard anyone else do."
We are looking forward to a magical performance by Iiris Viljanen, as she takes the stage and the grand piano at The Nordic Watercolour Museum in November!

GÅ PÅ GRUND! ('RUN AGROUND')
The concept behind "Grund" is produced by Tjörn Municipality and The Nordic Watercolour Museum. The idea is to offer a broad spectrum of music by exciting artists in an intimate setting at a great price. We believe in exciting encounters between the musician, audience and natural surroundings, where flashy stage shows are not allowed to get in the way of the music. And we believe that is an excellent ground on which to stand. / Previous artists on our stage: Loney dear, Bror Gunnar Jansson, Christian Kjellvander, Kristofer Åström, Maja Francis, Franska Trion, Mattias Alkberg, Sophie Zelmani, José Gonzáles, El Perro Del Mar, Mikael Wiehe, Vasas Flora & Fauna, Jens Lekman, Joel Alme, Frida Hyvönen, Anna Järvinen, Marit Bergman, Hanna Järver, Edda Magnasson and Niki & the Dove
