- Online (TEAMS)
info
Asger Jorn (1914–1973) and Per Kirkeby (1938–2018) are among the most important Danish figures in recent European art history. With their expressive and experimental art, they made a significant contribution to a new understanding of Nordic aesthetics in the 20th and 21st century.
Museum Jorn in Silkeborg, Denmark, administrates an important part of the artistic legacy of both painters through its extensive archives and collections. In his online lecture, delivered in English, Lucas Haberkorn from Museum Jorn compares the two grand masters and provides exciting background information for the current exhibition, Asger Jorn & Per Kirkeby.

Asger Jorn & Per Kirkeby
This summer, The Nordic Watercolour Museum is presenting an extensive exhibition of watercolours and drawings by two of Denmark’s most significant post-war artists. Asger Jorn (1914–1973) was one of the most influential figures of the European avant-garde art – a co-founder of the influential CoBrA movement, and a champion of spontaneous, free creation as a counterforce to convention and control. Per Kirkeby (1938–2018) represents another kind of artistic vision, one in which the structures of nature and time form the basis of creation. Kirkeby was one of the major renewers of neo-expressionist painting in the 1980s.
