Anne Katrine Dolven

Born 1953, Norway

Anne Katrine Dolven represents the Norwegian generation that takes the whole of Europe as its field of work. She trained at art institutions in Norway and in France and since 1997 has been living in London. In her art she often returns to visions of the magical landscape of the Lofoten Islands off Norway’s west coast. She is a versatile artist, practising a range of techniques. Her favourite media are photography and film, but painting, sculpture and installations also make up her repertoire. In her artistic practice Dolven stresses the actual concept (the idea) as the most important element. She frequently chooses topics involving contrasts, and pursues questions concerning conflicts between nature and culture and the marginalisation by history of women and certain social and ethnic groups.
