Award for our book on Gunilla Bergström and Alfie Atkins!

The Nordic Watercolour Museum's book about Alfie Atkins and the donation from Gunilla Bergström to the museum's collection have been awarded by Svensk Bokkonst!
Svensk Bokkonst ("Swedish Book Art") was founded in 1933 with the aim of stimulating and inspiring the book industry to achieve higher quality in the production of printed books. To fulfil this ambition, 25 exemplary books are selected each year as models of excellence. It has now been announced that Gunilla Bergström & Alfons Åberg, published by The Nordic Watercolour Museum, is one of this year’s award winners!
Jury’s motivation:
A fascinating treasure chest filled with previously unpublished sketches and illustrations, yet instantly familiar. Printing technique and choice of paper are in perfect harmony, with the working process revealed in an innovative way that invites the reader to turn and twist the book in order to get closer to the originals.
About the book
Before her passing in 2021, Gunilla Bergström donated the original artworks behind the beloved books about Alfie Atkins to The Nordic Watercolour Museum. In honour of this invaluable donation, the museum published in 2024 an entirely new book showcasing Bergström’s collected works, including previously unpublished sketches and original illustrations. The book is available exclusively at the museum.
