info
The Nordic Watercolour Museum invites you to an afternoon filled with crafting expressions and the joy of arts and crafts. Three textile artists inspire us by talking about their artistry and activities. Enjoy coffee and cake or lunch in the café and take a seat as you immerse yourself in exciting artistry. At the same time, you can continue with your own needlework and exchange tips with other like-minded people – whether your preferred form of expression is embroidery, knitting, fly tying or something completely different.
12 noon, Arts & Craft café
Beginner or experienced – bring your own needlework from home and share experiences with others. From 12 pm we have a drop-in at the Museum’s Assembly Hall, and you can get coffee and cake at Vatten Restaurang & Kafé.
1–2.30 pm
Three textile artists present their craftsmanship; Anja Fredell, Emma Hasselblad and Klara Espmark. Read more below.
Admission free, no pre-registration required.
Anja Fredell
Textile artist working in Gothenburg. Anja received her MA in Textile Art in 2021 from the HDK-Valand – Academy of Art and Design at the University of Gothenburg. “I work mainly with the textile technique of tufting, which is a semi-mechanical technique whose expression is reminiscent of hand-woven rugs. Through the physically demanding work that this technique entails, ideas, thoughts and feelings are expressed in rugs, tapestries and sculptures. The themes that move me and get me working revolve around materiality, duality and the sensual.”

Emma Hasselblad
Lives and works in Stockholm. Emma received her MA in Textile Art from the HDK-Valand – Academy of Art and Design at the University of Gothenburg in 2019 and a bachelor’s degree in fashion/design from ESMOD Berlin International Academy of Fashion in 2015. Her primary technique is knitting. “Knitting is the main technique in my artistic work. I investigate knitting in relation to the body, architecture, history and knitting traditions. I knit three-dimensional sculptures, spatial figures, two-dimensional representational images, wearable and non-wearable garments. I knit because knitting gives me the opportunity to examine shapes, silhouettes, different textures, colours and colour combinations. The flexibility of knitted material allows me to explore the possibilities that knitting offers.”

Klara Espmark
Textile artist working in Gothenburg. Klara received an MA in Textile Arts from the HDK-Valand – Academy of Art and Design at the University of Gothenburg in 2018, and has also taken preparatory courses in textile arts and crafts. “I mainly work with embroidery, and in my works I move about in a forest landscape where the perspective shifts between expansive views and close-ups of lichens and the annual rings of trees. Through embroidery, I gain access to inner places, memories and inherited stories. I’m constantly fascinated by the possibilities and limitations of textile as a material. I sew tightness and transparency, weight and lightness, trying to strike a balance and allowing the material to speak. I’m attracted to the slowness of the embroidery and the repetitive work. Time becomes a component in my images, embodied in the stitches.”
