info
An evening of song, dance and music from the English Baroque. Music by Henry Purcell, Matthew Locke and George Frideric Händel. Inspired by the English masquerade balls, the artists invite you to an evening concert filled with dance, music, and song. We journey to late 17th- and early 18th-century England to hear music by three generations of composers. The historical dancer Steven Player and the mezzo-soprano Lotta Bagge are accompanied by The North Sea Consort, performing on viola da gamba and lute.
A viola da gamba consort is a form of early string ensemble, where instead of violin, viola, and cello, the instruments include treble, tenor, and bass viola da gamba, accompanied by a lute.
Duration: 75 minutes
Admission: 150 SEK for adults, free under 18 years of age

Steven Player, from England, has been performing Renaissance and Baroque dances on concert stages around the world for the past twenty years. His distinctively vibrant, versatile, and rhythmical dance style is rooted in his research into original sources and musical manuscripts, aiming to revive the dances that inspired so many great composers. As both a baroque guitarist and dancer, he has worked with leading musicians and ensembles in the world of early music.
Lotta Bagge, mezzo-soprano, was born and raised in Gothenburg. She has studied in Vadstena, Weimar and Berlin. During her training, she has appeared in various productions, including roles such as Dorabella in Mozart's Così fan Tutte, Ruggiero in Handel's Alcina and Hänsel in Hansel and Gretel by Humperdinck. In summer 2024, Lotta sang one of the lead roles in Vadstena-Akademien’s opera production The Photographer by Anna Einarsson. In June 2024, she was a finalist in the prestigious Wilhelm Stenhammar International Music Competition (WSIMC), and has previously won the audience award in the Swedish opera competition OVIS - Rösten. In July 2025, she appeared in the role of Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni in Berlin.
