Since 2021, the Truth Commission for the Sámi People has been tasked with investigating and reviewing the policies pursued towards the Sámi from a historical perspective and examining their consequences for the Sámi people. On 30 September 2026, the Commission will present its final report together with the testimony volume Jag frågar marken tyst om lov ("I Quietly Ask the Land for Permission") in Staare (Östersund).
To mark this historic occasion, The Nordic Watercolour Museum will screen the live broadcast of the handover ceremony. The programme in Staare includes joik, speeches and readings of personal testimonies.

ABOUT
The Truth Commission for the Sámi People was established in 2021 after the Swedish Government decided to appoint a commission to investigate the policies pursued towards the Sámi from a historical perspective and their consequences for the Sámi people.
The Truth Commission has been tasked with:
- Investigating and reviewing the policies pursued towards the Sámi people, as well as the actions of relevant actors involved in implementing those policies.
- Raising awareness of and disseminating knowledge about Sámi experiences, while increasing public understanding of Sámi history and the ways in which historical injustices continue to affect the Sámi today.
- Proposing measures that may contribute to redress, promote reconciliation, and support a vibrant Sámi society.
