artist
Ann-Sofi Sidén
- Sweden, 1962

Ann-Sofi Sidén’s art has often been met with strong reactions. She began her artistic career with painting and sculpture, but in recent years she has worked primarily with film and installations. It is through her video works that Ann-Sofi Sidén has become internationally recognized. Her stories often deal with controversial subjects, which she treats with deep commitment, but without moralising. Vulnerability and violence are frequent themes in her work. Surveillance cameras have also been an important motif in Sidén’s art. The early works on paper, in which fingerprints form abstract patterns, link to the artist’s recurring themes surrounding the exercise of power and control in society. Ann-Sofi Sidén was educated at the Berlin University of the Arts and the The Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm.
