Anne Rolfsen
- Norway, 1946

Anne Rolfsen creates drawings and paintings where ornamentation meets figuration, and decoration morphs into metaphysics. Her oeuvre alludes to traditional embroidery and mandalas – the magical diagrams of Hinduism and Buddhism symbolising the universe entered by each individual. Rolfsen is also inspired by her travels to India and Japan. Her works reflect the artist’s fascination for floral motifs, although never as depiction. It is more about finding an abstract system of imagery. Since 2009, Anne Rolfsen has often used architectural vellum, using the underlying grid as a base for her evolving patterns. Here, the creative process resembles a meditation. Painting becomes a longing and search for beauty. Anne Rolfsen was educated at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
