Erik Hårdstedt
- Sweden, 1979

Watercolour is Erik Hårdstedt’s favorite medium. He draws inspiration from both art history and popular culture. In his work, the mundane and the extraordinary intersect in surprising ways. His motifs stem from mythological stories as well as contemporary consumer society. In Hårdstedt’s bustling, detailed compositions, trivial objects are combined with charged symbols. Familiar and unfamiliar faces parade through the scenes. Meditation plays a significant role in his creative process. The ability to master the technique allows the artist to work uncensored and in some cases translate currents of thought directly into spontaneous images.
