Fibben Hald
- Sweden, 1933
Fibben Hald is one of Sweden’s most prominent cartoonists and illustrators. He made his debut in 1963, with illustrations for a children’s book by Lennart Hellsing, Katten blåste i silverhorn ("The Cat Blew the Silverhorn"). The most characteristic trait of Hald’s aesthetics is his trust in the language of imagery. His ambition is that his art should appeal to both young and old. The illustrations reflect the artist’s temperament, where humour and playfulness are paramount. Graphite, charcoal, ink and watercolours are combined in witty visual stories without trite messages. Shapes are stylized and often with their own curious symbolism. As an artist, Fibben Hald has the ability to create compelling and unexpected encounters between word and image. He has illustrated texts by writers such as Janne Lundström, Max Lundgren, Helena Nyblom, Lars Forssell and Inga Borg. Fibben Hald was educated at Beckman’s College of Design in Stockholm.
