Erland Brand
- Sweden, 1922

Black lines appear out of nowhere. They appear to cover white sheets of paper beyond all control. They float incoherently in a void or meet each other. Together, they model shapes that are both abstract and imaginative at once. The perspectives are staggering, the variations endless. This is what Erland Brand’s (1922–2020) drawings often look like. Another special circle of motifs in his creation is the facial portrait, where the blurry features are often transformed into a harsh landscape. Erland Brand was born in 1922 in Arvika. After school in Gothenburg, he continued his studies as one of Endre Neme’s students at Valand in the late 1940s. Brand has successfully varied in techniques and scales and worked with watercolours, graphics, drawing and oil painting.
