Jørgen Rømer
- Denmark, 1923–2007

Jørgen Rømer studied art history at Copenhagen University but was a self-taught artist. For most of his life, he was also involved in research at the National Art History Photography Collection in Denmark. Art history was integral to Rømer’s experimental artistic practice. He was particularly interested in the Dutch 17th-century artist Hercules Seghers. Inspired by the experimental Eks school, he developed his own singular style. He tried to approach the techniques of the old masters and explored etching. When his health was impaired by the fluids required by this technique, he moved on to drawing and watercolours. The motifs in his detailed images were often nature’s smallest elements.
