Kåre Tveter
- Norway, 1922

The light in the watercolour Winter morning in Lillestrøm is cold and crystalline. If you have lived near the Arctic Circle during the winter months, the image brings the body’s memories to life – dawn light reflected on snow, a cold that stings the cheeks and icy breaths that bring the lungs to life. Kåre Tveter was one of the most loved Norwegian landscape painters. He has been called the painter of light and in his landscape painting the impressions of light and atmosphere are central. He used few and dimmed colours and said:
“I am drawn to the single-coloured surface where there are only nuances that play against each other so that light and space are created. Therefore, it may look as if I have exhaled a haze over the canvas or watercolour paper, like a sun haze or fog.”
Kåre Tveter was a painter, graphic artist and illustrator. He was educated at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo and made his debut at the National Art Exhibition in 1961.
