Marjukka Paunila
- Finland, 1949

Marjukka Paunila is a painter and art teacher. Alongside her artistic practice, she has also written an educational book on painting watercolours. In that sense, the technique itself is essential to her creative process. Paunila’s colouristically exquisite compositions are often based on studies of plants, landscapes, light and shade. Impressions from reality are transformed, however, into the mental images she paints. The world is always filtered through the artist’s mind. Moments are conveyed with a unique imagery, where eternity appears as fragments of the present. Colour and light have an unmistakable importance in Marjukka Paunila’s watercolours. The visible and the merely suggested enhance one another in her subtle pieces where time stands still. Marjukka Paunila was educated at the Finnish Academy of Arts and at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki.
