Mexico – Poetry and PoliticsModern and Contemporary Works on Paper and Animations

The exhibition Mexico – Poetry and Politics. Modern and Contemporary Works on Paper and Animations, presents the work of leading contemporary Mexican artists, often choosing to work in conceptual manner and whose underlying themes make frequent references to Mexico’s turbulent political climate. The exhibition reveals how contemporary art handles urgent topics in the complex everyday life of Mexico, a life marked by recurring confrontations, violence and abuse. But it also deals with the beautiful and poetic elements of daily existence.
Another aim of the exhibition is to show how contemporary art establishes links to earlier generations of artists who were firmly rooted in Mexican culture. To provide a background to the present and a greater understanding of the history of Mexican art, a selection of works by important artists from the early and mid-20th century is therefore presented.
The exhibition is a collaboration with Professor Mark Dean Johnson of San Francisco State University and Julio Morales as guest curator.
