Fusion – a small word with many meanings. An art collection, like the one belonging to the Nordic Watercolour Museum, is a form of fusion. Individual works are united into a greater whole, just as they are in conjunction with group exhibitions. Artwork is shown in new constellations, sometimes expected and sometimes surprising.
For the summer exhibition, several artists who are already represented in the museum’s collection have been invited to create new works. Sigga Björg Sigurðardóttir and Katja Tukiainen will contribute indoor wall murals. Adam Saks and Petri Hytönen will use the museum’s facade as a background for their new, large-scale pieces. Essentially different styles will interact and be united in new art fusions.
The group exhibition alternates between small and large, sugary sweet and uncomfortable. It demonstrates the fact that watercolour art has no single expression – it has many. The pieces get to spill beyond the frames. Art, people and nature will come together. It’s time to form new fusions!
