From the Museum Collection
When The Nordic Watercolour Museum opened 25 years ago, the long-term work began to build an art collection based on watercolour techniques. The collection is a reflection of the museum’s history. At the same time, it offers ideas of the development of watercolour art. The purpose of the collection is to expand our understanding of what watercolour art can be, contain and express. The collection is the heart of the museum – in exhibitions, in art education, and in research. It is a trove of contemporary art and a future cultural legacy.
During the summer of 2025, a selection of works from the collection is on display in Samlingssalen (the Assembly Hall) at the museum. Please note that the last day of the exhibitions is on Sunday 7th September 2025.
Participating artists: Georg Guðni Hauksson, Arne Isacsson, Lars Lerin, Elina Merenmies, Maria Nordin, Carl Wargh and Christine Ödlund
Also on display summer 2025
World of Pattern
The exhibition offers a new perspective on the watercolour medium by exploring its crucial role in the development of design. By showcasing both historical and contemporary pattern sketches, which are often kept in inaccessible archives and libraries, it brings us closer to the artistic depth and inventiveness of watercolour art. The sketches invite us to question the hierarchical divide between craft and fine art. Until 14 September 2025.
