Träbåtsfestivalen / “the Wooden Boat Festival” takes place in Skärhamn on 4–6 July 2025
Each summer, Skärhamn is transformed during one of Sweden’s most beloved maritime events – Träbåtsfestivalen or “the Wooden Boat Festival”. Organised by Tjörns Municipality in collaboration with the West Coast Wooden Boat Association, the festival offers three days filled with classic wooden boats, crafts, music, food, and activities for the whole family. See the full programme here (Swedish webite)
This year’s festival takes place from 4–6 July. If you’re planning to visit The Nordic Watercolour Museum during these dates, we recommend planning your visit in advance and taking the traffic situation into account. If possible, please consider using public transport.
The festival attracts thousands of visitors each year, and during the weekend of 5–6 July, traffic will be closed off in Södra hamnen, where The Nordic Watercolour Museum is located. If you’re arriving by car, you’ll need to park within walking distance from the museum. Take the opportunity to enjoy Skärhamn’s charming surroundings and coastal views along your walk.
Traffic in Södra hamnen is completely closed on the following times:
– Saturday 5 July 9 am–6 pm
– Sunday 6 July 9 am–4 pm
Please note that roads will not be closed on Friday, but traffic may still be affected due to increased visitor numbers in the area.
Exceptions apply for vehicles with a valid parking permit.
Suggested parking areas available in Skärhamn during the weekend:
– Municipality Hall / Kommunhuset (approx. 700 m from the museum) – map
– Idrottsvägen 2 (approx. 1 800 m) – map
– Röavallen (approx. 2 500 m) – map
Click here to go to Tjörn Municipality's website to read more about parking. You can also contact Tjörn Tourist Office if you have questions.
We encourage visitors to use public transport when possible. The nearest bus stop to the museum is Kommunhuset, Tjörn. Buses run roughly once an hour. If you are travelling to or from Gothenburg, you will need to change bus/train in Stenungsund. For current timetables and travel planning, please visit Västtrafik's website .
