Every summer, Västkustens Träbåtsförening, Södra Bohuslän Turism, and the Municipality of Tjörn arrange one of Sweden's most beloved marine events in Skärhamn – Träbåtsfestivalen, or the Wooden Boat Festival. This annual festival celebrates not only the traditional art of boat building but also the unique spirit that only wooden boats possess. In 2024, the festival also celebrates its 30th anniversary! See the full program here
During the weekend of July 6–7, traffic in Södra Hamnen is closed to accommodate the approximately 20.000 boat enthusiasts who visit Skärhamn to admire the wooden boats. The festival starts on Friday, July 5, when the boats arrive in the harbour, and ends with an award ceremony for the Wooden Boat of the Year on Sunday, July 7.
This means that those of you visiting The Nordic Watercolour Museum should plan your trip carefully in advance if you come by car. You will need to park within walking distance, as it is not possible to drive all the way to the museum when the traffic is closed in Södra Hamnen (where The Nordic Watercolour Museum is located). Take the opportunity to enjoy Skärhamn's surroundings and lovely views on your walk! The nearest available parking is at the Municipal Hall, about 700 meters from the museum.
Saturday 6 July at 9 am–6 pm
Sunday 7 July at 9 am–6 pm
(Friday 5 July, the traffic is not closed, but may be affected due to the many people visiting the area at the same time)
Exceptions are made for vehicles with a valid handicap permit, which are allowed to pass.
