On 3–5 July, Tjörn Municipality, in collaboration with the West Coast Wooden Boat Association, hosts one of Sweden’s most beloved maritime events – the annual Träbåtsfestivalen (or "the Wooden Boat Festival”) in Skärhamn. During the festival, the village comes alive with classic wooden boats, traditional craftsmanship, live music, food experiences, and activities for visitors of all ages. Each year, the festival attracts around 20 000 visitors, which means traffic and parking conditions are affected throughout the weekend.
The Nordic Watercolour Museum is open daily at 11 am–5 pm, including during the festival. However, if you are planning to visit the museum during these dates, we recommend planning your journey in advance and, if possible, travelling by public transport.
To accommodate festival activities and visitors, the South Harbour area will be closed to traffic during parts of the weekend. The Nordic Watercolour Museum is located within the restricted area, which means it will not be possible to drive all the way to the museum during these times.
On Friday 3 July, the area will remain open, but please expect heavier traffic than usual and a higher number of visitors.
Exceptions apply for vehicles with a valid parking permit.
As access to the harbour area is limited during the festival, visitors arriving by car will need to park in one of Skärhamn’s larger parking areas and walk the final stretch to the museum. Take the opportunity to enjoy Skärhamn’s coastal scenery, marina, and charming village atmosphere along the way.
Here, you can find a map overlooking recommended parkings in Skärhamn. For more information about available parking areas, please visit the Tjörn Municipality website. You are also welcome to contact the Tjörn Tourist Information Office if you have any questions regarding parking or directions.
Public transport is often the easiest way to reach Skärhamn during the festival weekend. The nearest bus stop to The Nordic Watercolour Museum is Kommunhuset, Tjörn, located within walking distance of the museum. For current timetables and journey planning, please visit the Västtrafik website.
