Martha Ossowska Persson
Martha Ossowska Persson is educated at the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts and the Valand Academy in Gothenburg. She originally worked with performance, photography, animation and drawing. At the same time, she used watercolour for sketches, templates and a kind of memorandum. As time passed, the watercolour took over and the formats became larger. With a technical brilliance, Ossowska Persson captures details in the human body, especially mouths and hands in enigmatic tactile shapes. Here both power and tenderness, threats or submission are expressed. The artist stubbornly returns to similar motifs. Colours and moods, however, have darkened considerably over time. The skin-pink shapes, which previously hovered in the white nebulae of the paper sheets, have been dimmed and are formed in bluish-purple tones that appear in varying shades from the darkness of the background. The slightly eerie colour scheme reinforces the mystery of the motif.
