The Museum and ... Neuroscience
30 September 6.00 pm • "The Brain & Art" with Gunnar Bjursell
The Nordic Watercolour Museum
25 years
Lectures
The lecture will be held in Swedish.
From cave paintings to generative algorithms – new tools have always reshaped the way we create and experience images.
In the online lecture “Between Brush & Pixel”, we embark on a historical journey to explore the interplay between technology and visual art. Along the way, we pause at significant milestones and examine how technological advances have influenced the development of painting – from pigments and perspective techniques to digital tools and artificial intelligence. We also take a closer look at contemporary examples, drawn from both ongoing and completed projects at RISE, where the lecturer is currently active. Finally, we reflect on how AI (artificial intelligence) and XR (extended reality) may shape the next major chapter in the history of painting.
The lecture will take place online via Teams.

About
What do neuroscience, AI, and education have to do with an art museum? Can a museum influence more than what fits within the frame? We present a series of digital jubilee lectures where we meet experts researching fields far beyond art. Together, we explore the question of what the role of an art museum is in a broader context.
