Zacharias Heinesen is a leading artist in the Faroe Islands. He was educated at the Academy of Arts in Reykjavik and at the Art Academy in Copenhagen. Heinesen resides and works mainly in the Faroe Islands’ capital, Torshavn. He habitually returns to landscape painting. House gables, façades, fields and fences create almost geometric patterns in a work that is full of life, light and strength. The colour palette is dominated by blue and green playing with red and golden tones, which in turn can blend into ochre. Using complex structures and vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines he depicts the contours of the landscape. His artistic language reveals a sense of rhythm resembling the Cubists.
