This lecture is intended to serve as an inspirational source for approaching the diversity of art. But what is art, and what is not? And who is to decide? By examining various artistic movements and theories surrounding art, we explore the power over the concept of art.
The lecture is held by Angelica Olsson, who will provide an introduction to how the concept of art changed in the early 20th century. Historically, art has predominantly focused on depicting reality, albeit from a subjective perspective. Today, the emphasis in art has shifted from craftsmanship to content, where many artists begin their work with an idea or a thought.
Contemporary art often addresses social, political, or existential issues relevant to the current zeitgeist in society. It can involve topics such as the environment, migration, identity, history, religion, gender, memory, or fiction.
Admission free, pre-registration is required. Coffee and tea will be served.

Lectures on Contemporary Art 2024
The Nordic Watercolour Museum and Friends of The Nordic Watercolour Museum invite you to a series of lectures on the theme of Contemporary Art. The lecturers provides insights into the kind of art that often requires more information than fits inside a frame. Refreshments will be provided by the museum, and there will also be opportunities to continue the discussion. All the lectures are on the main theme but can be enjoyed separately. Angelica Olsson
Angelica Olsson is an artist, a curator, member of the national board of Konstnärernas Riksorganisation (The Artists' Association of Sweden), and active in education, art mediation, as well as a writer and lecturer. She studied at Valand Academy of Fine Arts with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Fine Arts, The Nordic Art School in Karleby, Finland, and has studied courses in art history, archaeology, and social anthropology at Stockholm and Uppsala universities.
