The Nordic Watercolor Museum and the Friends' Association invite you to a lecture series on the theme of 'contemporary art' throughout 2024. In total, there will be five occasions, one of which is digital, and the remaining four will take place at the museum.
Contemporary art aims to make us feel and think in different ways; it encourages subjective interpretations and emphasizes that we all have the right to our own interpretation of what art is. But is it possible? How can one interpret a language that is often not understood? These thoughts became the starting point for the lecture series organized by The Nordic Watercolour Museum and the Friends' Association in 2024.
"We will focus on what is the foundation of the entire museum, namely art. We want to show that art is for everyone, regardless of prior knowledge"
says Simone Frankel, program coordinator at The Nordic Watercolour Museum.
Lecturer for four of the five occasions is Angelica Olsson, artist, curator, member of the national board of Konstnärernas Riksorganisation (The Artists' Association of Sweden) and writer. On one occasion (May 30), we welcome Paula von Seth, art educator at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and artist, to host the lecture.
Through the lecture series, the ambition is to provide the audience with keys to the kind of art that often requires more information than what fits within the picture frames. In connection with the lectures, the museum serves some coffee/tea, and for those who want to continue the art conversation, it will be encouraged to do so. Each lecture follows the main theme but is independent.
The series has been made possible by a generous donation from The Friends of the Nordic Watercolour Museum to the museum's programme. In total, the association supports the museum with a contribution of 50,000 SEK, a contribution that finances the majority of the project. Over the years, the Friends' Association has become an important meeting place for art enthusiasts, an indication that it is a subject that engages.
