It is an association founded in 1995 (five years before The Nordic Watercolour Museum opened!) with the purpose of supporting the museum in various ways. As a member, you get free admission to the museum and several other membership benefits, and you can choose whether to be actively involved or simply support the association (and thus the museum) through the annual membership fee. Read more here.
During the summer, the Friends’ Association volunteers are often at the museum reception to answer questions, but you can always read more on the association’s own website.
- What else can I experience nearby?
Tjörn is an island full of culture and plenty to explore! Besides taking a dip at the swimming area next to the museum or enjoying an ice cream in the marina, you can find several restaurants and shops in Södra hamnen (where the Nordic Watercolour Museum is located) that are open for the season.
Here on Tjörn, you can discover both outdoor activities and more art experiences nearby. For example, we recommend a visit to Skulptur i Pilane or an excursion to Sundsby Säteri. For those who have the opportunity, the world-famous Pater Noster lighthouse is a unique destination on the horizon.
Make sure to check the municipality's events calendar to discover all the happenings on the island during your stay.
If you're looking to take a longer trip, there are several exciting destinations in Bohuslän. You can discover some of them here, in what we call “Expedition Bohuslän”.

Tjörn – Island of Art
On Tjörn we love art and nature. From the jetty at the Nordic Watercolor Museum, you can dip your paintbrush in water while you dip your toes in the sea. From the cliffs of the historic landscape of Sculpture in Pilane, you can gaze out over the sea with the sculpture Anna by your side. Across the water stands Pater Noster, the king of lighthouses, where you have a world-class design hotel that offers you a home on the horizon.
